Just Because I’ve Been Quiet, Doesn’t Mean I’ve Disappeared!

Hello again!

Let me start by inserting a crummy apology for my absence here. =P Truth is, life just got in the way again! April was an absolutely INSANE month for me – 6 birthdays, 2 weddings! On top of that, my other half and I were trying to get his things packed up for a big move, AND I’ve been stuck in bed for the past week with a doozy of a cold. I’m thinking the huge number of chaotic activities finally took their toll!

The good thing about being stuck in bed, is that it doesn’t prevent you from creating pretty things with yarn.

After I finished this cross stitch sampler for my friend’s wedding present,

I started focussing on stocking up some of the items in the shop, along with some new items I have yet to add. I’ve also been slowly adding to my Christmas items, hoping to stock up for potential seasonal craft shows at the end of the year. When it all comes down to it, I never feel like I have enough of ANYTHING, and always wish my fingers would knit/crochet faster than they already do. I’m only human. I suppose I need to just be content with the progress I do make! Rome wasn’t built in a day, and all that.

My obsession lately has been these slipper flats –IMG_2409

I liked the first pair so much, that I kept them for myself. I think I must wear them everyday! Now I’ve been adding to the inventory with different colour combinations, and sizes. As much as I want to add these in the shop (and will eventually), I’ve become determined to have a bunch of pairs for craft shows, so photographing them has been put on the back-burner for now.

Today, I made a pair of Mary Jane socks to add to the shop:

I had these listed last year, but never got around to restocking them once they were sold out. FINALLY getting around to changing that! In fact, they will be back in the shop tomorrow, so stay tuned!

Lastly, amongst this bit of a ramble, I just wanted to say thank you again. Thank you for reading this; for shopping at my little online store; for having patience with me as I try to balance a fairly unpredictable life with a small business. Now that life has quieted down a bit, I’m planning on putting a lot more energy into Knitting by Kali.

Short and Sweet

I found a new slipper pattern and liked the result so much, I decided to keep the first pair for myself!

I’m hoping to have a pair or two of these in the shop by next week! Keep an eye out for them!

With that said, I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Easter Weekend! I hope it’s filled with lots of love and laughter, and be sure to stay safe! I will be out of town visiting family, so any inquiries may not be responded to immediately, but I’ll be sure to check my e-mail, social media, etc at least once a day while I’m gone! The shop will be back to normal on Tuesday!

Branding: The Struggle is Real

Today’s topic – branding.

Yes, I wrote about this not too long ago, claiming it wasn’t for the weak hearted. (If you have any doubts, you can read about my struggles here.) Well consider this part two of the saga.

My problem from the start has been creating beautiful, professional-looking branding for my shop, using little (or no) money. I prefer the free option, because, let’s face it, I’m a frugal entrepreneur who’s essentially just starting out. Yes, I am aware that it takes money to make money, but I KNOW there are thousand of Etsy sellers out there who have gone the DIY route, and have much prettier branding than I.

I stumbled upon a wonderful blog while searching some articles about craft shows on Pinterest. The idea of doing a craft show has been circling around my mind for a while now – but that’s another blog post! The article I found not only was a mini-series explaining things to consider when setting up a booth, it also went into detail regarding how to create wonderful branding using the same website I use to edit my photos! (Score one for this girl!)

Today’s troubles are stemming from the fact that I’m a perfectionist at heart, and can’t seem to find a font that I can absolutely fall in love with. Furthermore, every time I try a design that I rather like, I make the mistake of showing it to someone else for their input, and get not-so-heart-warming reviews. As much as I want to get this done, and be not only content, but darn proud of the outcome, I really don’t think that’s going to be happening soon!

Wish me luck on my continuing journey!!

Cuteness Overload!

I am so happy to report that the temperature here is (finally!) above 0 degrees Celsius! This is a first for 2015, at least where I live – what I affectionately refer to as “The Great White North”.

With the rising temperatures, comes Spring, and since most people aren’t very interested in purchasing hand knit hats and scarves anymore, the business in my little shop tends to slow down a bit. Since I have two weddings to attend next month, a lot of my spare time has been spent getting ready for those. I’m almost thankful for the slight lull in business.

That said, as winter slowly melts away, not only does it make room for Spring, but also another time of year – baby season! These are the days where 90% of the traffic through Knitting by Kali is directed towards the cute little things – tiny socks, tiny hats, and tiny booties. I have to admit, my favourite part of knitting is making things for little bundles of joy. Not only are baby accessories absolutely adorable, but they’re fun to make, and I can usually get a pair of booties, or a hat done in about an hour! So much instant satisfaction!

My newborn sandals are back in the shop now, and they’ve become a big hit! I got to send this pair out to Maryland this morning:

Before I could even got home from the post office, another order came in – this time for these purple booties!

All of this interest in my tiny shoes has made me want to add some more colour options, and maybe even different styles to the shop! I still have some work to do on a wedding gift, but I think it might be nice to take a break from it every once in a while to make some more baby items!

If you can think of any styles or colours you’d like to see, be sure to let me know! I LOVE getting some input! Thanks in advance, and wish me luck!
