Chunky Knit Headbands

Breaking out the big needles today to make some chunky knit headbands!  It feels like I’m knitting with telephone poles!! 😂 😂

Enjoying getting a number of projects done today!  No better feeling than striking things off your to-do list! What’s everyone up to this lazy Sunday?

Saturday Night

Spending my Saturday night in front of the TV watching detective shows with some knitting and my snuggle buddy. ❤

Super exciting festivities happening here, obviously. What’s your Saturday night looking like?

Post Christmas Projects!

Hello! It’s been forever since I’ve bothered to blog! Life’s been pretty hectic between preparing for Christmas, and helping my relatives out with some renos!

I want to start by saying, I hope everyone had a great holiday! I found it hard to get into the Christmas spirit this year, probably due to the lack of snow around here. I was starting to think it was time to break out the T-shirts and shorts again! Regardless, it was nice to spend some time with my family, exchange gifts, and binge on some yummy turkey!

Now that the craziness that is the holiday season has simmered down a bit, I’ve begun working on quite a few projects. Santa brought me some beautiful, soft yarn for Christmas this year, so I have been turning some of it into my signature smocked hats. ❤  SO in love with this gorgeous seafoam colour!!

I happened to notice that my local yarn store had all of their yarn on sale as a Boxing Day special, so you can bet I ran down there and stocked up! I ended up buying a ton of this colour to use for another project I’ll be starting in a few months. (It’s a surprise for now!) Normally, I would have just waited to get the materials closer to the time I plan to use them, but really, 50% off is just too good to pass up! I also bought a dusty rose colour, and transformed it into another smocked beanie.

These cute hats are just so soft and squishy! I’m looking forward to having a few more colour options in this style soon!

I’ve also finished a baby blanket for my SIL (another secret, shh!), and am working on an amigurumi (crocheted stuffed animal toy) elephant to gift along with it!

FINALLY, I bought another colour of bulky yarn in a heathered aran colour to add to my turban-style headbands! I’ve been wanting to offer a few more colour options with a lot of the stuff in the shop, and Boxing Day was calling to me!

While I continue to work at making my new yarn stash into pretty things you can wear, I’ve also been addicted to Netflix, although as you probably already know, that’s nothing new. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions for some good movies and/or shows I should check out? I’d love to hear from you!

It’s been so great to finally be able to blog again! I’m really looking forward to getting around to this more often! As always, if you’re new to Knitting by Kali, thank you for stopping by! Please feel free to visit anytime! And if you have been visiting my blog and/or shop for a while now, thank you for the support! It’s so very appreciated! Hoping to return to the blog again soon, but until then, take care! xoxo

Cool Weather Means Knit Accessories!

Hello once again!

Sadly, my days at the cottage are dwindling. The weather is starting to cool down, school is in session, and thus, I’m back at it with the shop, working on re-listing some autumn classics. Oddly enough, adding hand-knit headbands and hats is making me feel quite nostalgic. It’s almost like looking back at your kid’s baby pictures, and remembering the time when… Aww. There’s that turban style headband that gave me so much trouble the first time I made one! How far we’ve come!  Now, believe me when I say, I’m not trying to compare my pieces to a living person. There’s just a lot of love I associate with the effort it took to make each item.

As of this evening, SANTA HATS are back in the shop! Am I crazy to be selling these in September? Possibly. However, last year was the first Christmas season I went through with Knitting by Kali, and I was astonished by the number of these hats I sold! It felt like I could barely keep up with the demand! So this year, I’ve learned to be better prepared. As you may have read in previous posts, I’ve worked on really stocking the shop all summer long, while I had the time to do so. Along with a bigger inventory, I’ve started selling them earlier in the year, in hopes that those who like to stay on top of things, can take advantage of them being available for a longer period of time. That makes sense, right?

In addition to these festive accessories, I’ve also begun listing Mini Christmas Mitten Ornaments for the same reasons!

If you still think I’m crazy for focussing on Christmas so early, I completely understand. C’mon! I can hear you all thinking in your head, Halloween hasn’t even happened yet! And yes, suddenly I can hear your thoughts. =P My point is, I’m also working on adding some fall accessories. As of a few minutes ago,Turban-style headbands and Cable Knit Headbands are for sale in the shop, with the hope of adding a few more selections before the end of the night!

This may come off as a little egotistical, but don’t you just love that picture of the turban-style headband, where my eyes are peeping over the edge of the frame? My best friend took that photo. He’s pretty talented when it comes to photography. He’s even more impressive with a paintbrush! Ok, I’m done ranting. That picture just makes me smile everytime I see it!

If you’re new to the blog, thank you for visiting! Please come back anytime! And if you’re familiar with Knitting by Kali, thank you for the continuing support! Please feel free to leave comments, or follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or Etsy! I absolutely love getting to know everyone! That’s it for today. Happy Hump Day, and I shall chat with you soon!

Winter is Coming!

I know, I know. It’s depressing, and you’re probably hating me right about now, but with school starting soon, it’s time to prepare ourselves (mentally and physically) for cooler days. It’s that time of year where Etsians and crafters alike begin to plan for Christmas – only because handmade gifts can take a while to complete! And after visiting some fellow Etsians at FanExpo Canada this weekend, I’m starting to feel antsy about getting the shop back into shape after a rather slow summer. (It’s not easy to sell hand knit and crocheted items during a heatwave!)

This morning I’ve been working on getting a One of a Kind section put together. This part of my little store is going to feature items made from discontinued yarns, and other things that can’t be reproduced. Often, these are projects designed to be prototypes, and although there’s nothing physically wrong with them, I find them scattered around my house without a proper home. As of today, this warm and fuzzy loom-knit hat is now for sale:

As well as this cozy turban-style headband:

I’ve also been thinking about Christmas, and the many festive items I’ve been working on stocking this summer while I had the time. Although it’s a little early, I decided to put my Christmas Light Garlands up for sale too!

These are one of my favourite Christmas pieces I make, and I think they just look cute as anything strung up in the house during the holidays!

I’m so glad (and maybe even a little relieved) to have started getting the shop back in shape, but I have a long ways to go! Be sure to keep an eye out for lots of new items coming very soon! I will be posting lots of updates to my facebook page as well as my instagram (@knittingbykali)!

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their long weekend! Take care, and as always, stay safe!

Orange is the New Black Watchers?

I’ve been counting down the days until Season 3 is released, so of course I was thrilled when I found out it was released early! To add to my excitement, it’s been raining out all day long, so I don’t feel as guilty staying in bed, knitting while enjoying Pieper Chapman’s new adventures!

Who else is binge watching Orange is the New Black today? Are you enjoying any other activities whil you watch? I always feel the need to keep my hands busy while sitting around. Today, I’m working on stockpiling my dishcloths for the shop, and upcoming craft shows!
